Comments
When you comment on this website, we record the details entered in the comment form along with your IP address and browser user agent, which helps us filter out spam. A hashed version of your email address may be shared with an avatar service to check whether you have a profile there; that provider’s own privacy policy explains how it handles the information. Once your comment has been approved, your profile image will appear publicly alongside it. We never sell or rent the details collected through comments to anyone.
Files
Before uploading photos to this website, please remove any embedded location data (such as EXIF GPS tags). Anyone visiting the website is able to download images and read the location details stored inside them.
Cookies
If you choose to leave a comment, you can save your name, email address, and website in cookies so you won’t need to type them again next time. These convenience cookies remain in place for one year.
When you open our login page, a temporary cookie is set to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal information and is deleted as soon as you close the browser. Logging in creates several more cookies that store your login details and display preferences. Login cookies expire after two days and display preference cookies after one year. Selecting “Remember Me” keeps you signed in for two weeks.
Logging out of your account deletes the login cookies straight away.
Editing or publishing an article saves one additional cookie in your browser. It contains no personal information and only records the ID of the post you just edited. This cookie expires after one day.
Content embedded from third parties
Articles on this website may contain content embedded from elsewhere, such as videos, images, or other articles. Embedded content behaves exactly as it would if you had visited the original website directly.
Those websites may gather information about you, place cookies, add their own third-party tracking, and record how you interact with the embedded content, particularly if you hold an account with them and are signed in at the time.
Who receives your information
When you ask to reset your password, the reset email will contain the IP address of the request.
How long we keep your details
Comments and their associated metadata are kept indefinitely. This lets us recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically, rather than placing them in a queue for manual moderation.
If you register an account on our website, we also keep the personal details you add to your user profile. You can view, update, or remove that information whenever you like, although usernames cannot be changed. Our website administrators are also able to view and edit these details.
Your rights regarding your data
If you hold an account on this website or have posted comments, you may ask for an exported copy of the personal data we keep about you, including anything you have shared with us. You may also ask us to delete that personal data. This excludes any information we must retain for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
Where your data goes
Comments left by visitors may be screened by an automated service that detects spam.
